How to make the most of your box
Your My Mama Says subscription box is more than something fun to open. It is a toolbox for emotional resilience, connection, and self awareness. Here is how to get the most out of every delivery.
1. Unbox together
Make unboxing a moment of connection. Invite your child to explore each item, ask what they notice, and let them lead with curiosity. Each box includes a letter that explains what is inside and why, so you understand the emotional intention behind every item.
2. Let curiosity guide the order
Other than starting with the welcome letter, there is no prescribed order. Whatever your child shows the most interest in is the perfect place to begin. Read the activity instructions together so the why lands. Rock painting without reflection might be fun, but it will not build emotional vocabulary or regulation skills unless you pause to connect it back to feelings.
3. Be intentional with placement
Where you keep the books, toys, and tools matters. Putting items in high traffic or emotionally relevant spaces can spark natural, ongoing conversations.
In the bedroom
- Little Book series. Keep by the bed for cozy nighttime reading and end of day emotion talks.
- What Made Me Happy Today notepad. Evening reflection and gratitude before sleep.
- Stuffies and plush characters. Comfort and safety when the nervous system needs calming.
- The Scared Penguin nightlight. A gentle, nonverbal invitation to chat about fears or worries.
- Cozy socks. A sensory reminder of love and comfort for resets or overwhelm.
In the bathroom
- Bath bombs and shower steamers. Make bath time a calming sensory ritual before bed.
- Hooded towel. A warm wrap for security after a bath, reinforcing the feeling of being safe and nurtured.
In the kitchen
- Food items like popcorn, pasta, cookie cutters, and ice trays. Use during prep or snacks to spark emotion themed chats. Prompts are included in your instructions.
- Coloring books and placemats. Quiet, independent reflection while you cook or tidy.
In the living room or family area
- Magnet board and emotion magnets. Encourage spontaneous check ins and storytelling.
- Yoga cards. Gentle movement for regulation and body awareness.
- Sensory toys. Keep within reach for tactile comfort during stress, transitions, or downtime.
- Regulation tools like reframing dice and the emotion spinner. Playful problem solving and flexible thinking.
Outdoors or on the go
- Bubble wands. A fun way to practice deep breathing and emotional release outside.
- Skipping rope. Movement, rhythm, and mood boosting play.
- Bring the Love tote. A nature walk collection bag or a comfort carry for a favorite fidget.
In a bag or the car
- Essential oils, therapy putty, and sensory fidgets. Keep calming tools handy for travel and transitions.
4. Practice, not perfection
We are not teaching lessons. We are creating experiences. Whether it is coloring a placemat at breakfast or blowing bubbles to reset a mood, every small moment helps these tools stick. Kids learn best through play, repetition, and your example.
5. Build simple habits
- Placemats at breakfast become a morning check in.
- Coloring book and plush create a calming corner.
- Arts and crafts support emotional expression.
- Songs and movement become regulation on the go.
- Journaling and books become bedtime reflection.
6. Celebrate growth
When you see your child using the skills they are building, acknowledge it out loud. Try something like, "I noticed you took a deep breath before answering your sister. That was great self regulation." Small moments of recognition go a long way in reinforcing progress and pride.
Do not forget
Each box includes a Little Book on the featured emotion. It is the heart of the experience. Read it together, revisit it often, and explore the guiding questions and musical version through the QR code inside.
